One day a philosopher was walking along the beach when he noticed a figure that appeared to be dancing in the distance. As he got closer, he realized the figure was that of a young man picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. Approaching the young man, he asked, "What are you doing?"
The young man replied, "Throwing starfish into the ocean. The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don't throw them back, they'll die."
"But young man" , the philosopher said, "don't you realize there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it? You can't possibly make a difference!"

After listening politely, the young man bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it into the surf. Then, smiling at the philosopher, he said, "I made a difference for that one."

His response surprised the man. He was upset. He didn't know how to reply. So instead, he turned away and walked back to his writings. All day long as he wrote, the image of that young man haunted him until he realized that he the philosopher had missed the essential nature of the young man's actions. Because he realized that what the young man was doing was choosing not simply to be an observer of the universe and watch it pass by, but was choosing to be an actor in the universe and make a difference. He was embarrassed.
That night he went to bed, troubled. When morning came the philosopher went to the beach and found the young man. And with him he spent the rest of the morning throwing starfish in the ocean. Afterwards he wrote:
"Vision without action is merely a dream.
Action without vision just passes the time.
Vision with action can change the world."

Svetlana Tolmacheva

Founder and Director

Svetlana Tolmacheva has over 20 years experience in HR field. Initially her background has been in academic studies with Moscow state University, where she got her PhD in 1990. In the course of 1991-1995 Svetlana worked as a Director for the United Nations Training Centre in Moscow and successfully organized over 50 training programs for Russian top executives in Europe, USA and Japan. In 1996 Svetlana was assigned for the Director role with an Executive Search firm (IMSA Russia), responsible for it' s total performance. In 1998 Svetlana has completed British Council Program (JICAP) learning best practices from the British HR consulting companies. Later Svetlana has pioneered career management services to the Russian market by establishing in 1999 the first Russian career management company (STMC).

Svetlana is HR professional specialized in Career Management and Executive Coaching. Her background includes the whole cycle of HR activities starting from executive training, search and selection, assessment, career consulting and business coaching. Svetlana presented on the subject at HR meetings and conferences in Russia and abroad, published on it in a number of reputable Russian newspapers and magazines.

Valeria Terentieva

Valeria Terentieva has over 20 years professional experience in Russia and Europe. Before joining her efforts with STMC, Valeria has been working in neuropsychology, pedagogy, personnel management, change management, research in the field of success philosophy and building of corporate developing space. Valeria is experienced working in cross-cultural environment as CIS Regional Director with Bosch concern as well as in Russian business in the area of building and developing huge corporations- as an HR Vice President and General Director with investment company Invest AG.

Valeria is consultant, business trainer, NLP practitioner, coach, moderator experienced consulting top management and staff of multinational and Russian companies on change management, communicative and social competence, personal effectiveness issues. Her training portfolio includes trainings on effective communication and interaction, conflict management, effective presentation, sales and personnel management.

Valeria specialized in consulting corporate clients on broad spectrum of problems in the area of organizational and professional effectiveness growth; Change management, corporate philosophy and inter-corporate space, building and positioning of employer's brand, improvement of interactions in international and cross-cultural teams, building management teams, elaboration and implementation of individual systems of assessment and development of personnel, elaboration of result management systems. She is experienced conducting training , delivering coaching of management and high potential employees.

Valeria is an author of articles on personnel management, training and development . corporate culture management, co-author of State program on assessment and growth of social responsibility of businesses, author of a book " Brand-integrated Management or Each Employee is responsible for the Brand", 2006, correspondent member of International Academy of Patrons of Arts.

Valeria graduated from psychological faculty of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov. She completed postgraduate education in the field of Personnel Management with Russian Federation Government Academy. Valeria is Russian native, German fluent and moderate English.

Natalia Ryazanova

Maria Riazanova has over 12 years of experience in Human Resources, organizational development and trainings.

Maria has worked as an HRD in large Russian and international companies like Schneider Electric, Huhtamaki and Media3 (part of PromSvyazCapital group) and has proven experience in building HR systems in various industries – production sites, retail networks, publishing houses, internet projects and others. Maria has worked in a strategic HR management role and provided solutions to a number of business tasks including efficiency increase of HR systems, personnel risks assessment, HR support for start-ups, acquisitions, entity liquidations, selection and coaching of top management teams. Maria has remotely managed teams and operated in different CIS regions.

Maria's functional expertise incorporates key HR areas such as compensation and benefits, people planning, trainings and development, responsibilities matrix, internal communications and employer's brand campaigns. Her highlighted professional focus lies in audit and improvement of HR systems management.

Maria graduated from Moscow State University where she obtained a degree in Philosophy and Religious studies and continued her professional training in a number of programs on personnel management, change management and labor regulations, she is fluent in English.

Since 2008 after graduating from Moscow Institute of Gestalt and Psychodrama Maria has been conducting counseling sessions on career and personal development. Her scientific interest shows in applying psychotherapeutic tools in organizational consulting and personnel assessment.

I had a position of Chief Accountant/Financial Manager and had an agreement with the employer of upgrade to the top financial position. All my hopes to future carrier growth failed in June, 2002, when my employer, the worldwide telecommunications operator passed through bankruptcy and contraction of the business in many countries. The Russian legal entity was closed and the procedure of its bankruptcy began.
